With a passion for craftsmanship and everyday products

SKILLED CRAFTSMANSHIP

Ever since the start, each basket has been woven by hand using the exact same technique and tools, made completely without weldings. Behind every basket lies skilled craftsmanship and it takes years to fully master the technique and materials to craft a Korbo basket.

All baskets are individually signed by the craftsman who wove the basket.

SWEDISH TRADITION SINCE 1922

The craftsmanship behind the baskets dates back to the early 1920´s Sweden.

The first basket was woven by hand in 1922 by Einar Andersson, in Furufjäll, Sweden.
In the old days, the baskets were used by fishermen and farmers or anyone who needed reliable carrying and storage that could withstand weather, wind, wear and tear.

The photograph on the left is from 1947 and taken in the small fishing village of Skägganäs. The basket the fishermen are using is todays Classic 35.

WOVEN BY A SINGLE WIRE

A unique design and technique is used to weave each basket together. The weaving is done with a single wire, completely without weldings. The technique, craftsmanship and high quality materials are the reasons why the Korbo baskets are so durable. There are simply no parts of the basket that can fall apart!

The Korbo baskets are crafted for life and for generations to come!

TIMELINE

KORBO AB

In the early 2000s we found an old basket in a fisherman’s shed and thereafter learnt about the craftsmanship. The craftsmanship was about to die out and we could not let the beauty and function of the baskets go. The sustainability of the basket and its craftsmanship had a revival to make against plastic! In 2006 the company Korbo AB was founded and the production was restarted with the exact same technique as in 1922.

The name Korbo is a play on words. The Swedish word for basket is Korg, and the name of the county where the baskets was originally made is Bohuslän. Combining these two words gives you Kor bo.
